Open Mind OT specialises in Mental Health/ Psychosocial Disabilities. However, other services are also offered. Take a look to the right and see if we provide the service you require.

  • Mental health OT focuses on promoting an individuals' mental well-being and helping them engage in meaningful activities. These services are designed to enhance your mental health and quality of life by addressing challenges related to daily functioning.

    Open Mind OT can support you with sensory modulation, mindfulness and relaxation techniques, life skills training, crisis planning and support, environmental modification and development of healthy coping strategies.

  • Open Mind OT can support you if you have a physical disability and require an assessment and recommendation for equipment such as:

    • Manual Wheelchairs.

    • Recliner Lift Chairs.

    • Dressing Aids.

    • Cooking Aids.

    • Manual Handling Aids (hoists/standing machines).

    • Electric Height Adjustable Beds.

    • Pressure Care Mattress and Cushions.

    • Home Automation.

  • Open Mind OT can support you with completing NDIS Functional Capacity Assessment Reports.

    This includes:

    • Completing a home visit/s to understand the daily challenges you experience.

    • Completing standardised functional assessments with you.

    • Observing you in your home environment and assessing to ensure you are safe, and it is accessable.

    • Writing a comprehensive OT report for you to submit to the NDIS with recommendations for funding to suit your assessed care needs.

  • An Open Mind OT driving Assessor can support you with completing your OT driving assessment.

    The process includes:

    Off Road Assessment:

    An Open Mind OT Driving Assessor will conduct an assessment to evaluate your physical and cognitive abilities related to driving. This assessment may include a discussion of your medical history, a review of any relevant medical reports, and various tests to assess your vision, coordination, reaction time, and other relevant factors.

    On-Road Assessment:

    Depending on the results of the initial off road assessment, an on-road assessment may be recommended. During this phase, you will be required to demonstrate your driving skills under the observation of your OT Driving Assessor, alongside a qualified Specialised Driving Instructor. This is conducted on a pre-determined Vic Roads test route.

    There are two test options:

    Open Area
    Local Area

    Recommendations and Reporting:

    Based on the assessments, the OT Driving Assessment will provide recommendations to the licensing authority (Vic Roads). These recommendations could include modifications to your vehicle, restrictions on your driving, or advice on whether it is safe for you to continue driving.

    Licensing Authority (Vic Roads) Review:

    The OT Driving Assessor will complete a report, which will be submitted to VicRoads. The licensing authority will review the report and all other medical information and determine whether any modifications to your license are necessary.

    Decision and Follow-up:

    Vic Roads will communicate their decision to you, which may include maintenance of your current licence (unrestricted), changes to your driving conditions and/or restrictions (such as only driving within a 5km radius or driving with vehicle modifications). Follow-up assessments may be required periodically to monitor your driving abilities, and Vic Roads will advise you if this is required.
